Alcon Statement on COVID-19

When we created the “new Alcon” one year ago, our company united behind a noble mission of empowering people around the world to See Brilliantly. We embarked on this journey driven by our 73-year history of pioneering innovative treatments focused on the most precious human sense: our sight.
As the world faces a threat that cannot be seen, Alcon remains fully committed to serving the eye care professionals, patients and consumers who depend on us. To do this, we have implemented a number of measures during this unique global challenge.
Standing behind our associates
Our highest priority is ensuring the health and safety of our more than 20,000 Alcon associates around the world.
To encourage the safe and responsible measures outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other country health authorities, we are directing all Alcon office-based associates to work from home and not to travel.
To protect the safety of our associates and our customers, our Sales and Customer Service teams are delivering remote account management in lieu of in-person visits.
In instances where our people are working on-site to ensure the continued availability of essential medical devices, we have implemented additional measures to help protect our associates. For example, we are limiting the number of people in one area at a time, modifying workstation arrangements, and minimizing the cross flow of people between shifts to reduce potential exposure, along with enhanced cleaning and sanitization of our facilities.
Ensuring critical supply
We have activated a Global Crisis Management team to implement business continuity measures and action plans that focus on taking care of our associates, our customers and their patients. We have a diverse manufacturing footprint, inventory on hand and enhanced business continuity plans to ensure our supply chain is maintained.
We target 12 weeks of customer-ready products in our supply chain and, for most of our products, we are at or close to this level.
Our manufacturing sites remain open and we are actively working to mitigate any potential supply chain disruptions.
Our Procurement teams are staying in close contact with our critical suppliers to maintain access to raw materials and other components. When necessary, we are also utilizing alternative methods of product distribution and supplier sourcing, as well as alternative shipping options where possible.
Promoting the safe use of our products
Those who depend on our products can be assured that Alcon continues to adhere to our high standards for product safety, including sterilization and safe delivery to our customers.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the likelihood of an infected person contaminating commercial goods is low and the risk of catching the virus that causes COVID-19 from a package that has been moved, travelled, and exposed to different conditions and temperatures is low.
We are also working with our industry associations to promote the safe use of contact lenses by sharing best practices with optometrists and their patients and posting safe handling tips across social media channels.
Supporting the Global Community
Alcon is supporting charitable partners that are serving the most vulnerable populations affected by the outbreak. The Alcon Foundation has reallocated funds and made monetary donations to local, national and global organizations to support meal programs for children and seniors, provide essential supplies to shelters and aid public health emergency relief efforts.
As the public health emergency has grown in scale, Alcon has ramped up its efforts to donate personal protective equipment (PPE), while also producing additional PPE and hand sanitizers for relief efforts. Alcon will continue to explore additional measures to support organizations fighting to stem this pandemic.
